Problem​

  • The client operated multiple data science teams handling diverse prediction tasks, from battery life expiration to healthcare claims analysis, utilizing IoT and 3rd party datasets like IQVIA and Definitive Healthcare. Despite similar workflows, these teams faced common challenges: restricted scalability, limited data capacity, outdated tools, and struggles with model operationalization, diminishing their overall value.

Solution

  • We aided the client in establishing an internal data consortium using Azure tools like Data Share, Synapse Analytics, and Machine Learning. This streamlined the distribution of domain-specific datasets to data science teams and accelerated their value delivery through secure Azure ML deployment, supported by our IQi30 program. 

Benefits

  • The data science teams accessed new Azure ML capabilities for enhanced compute scale. They securely and efficiently shared data from the distribution hub to their environments without additional ETL development, enabling easy model operationalization in their domain.

External Identity Consolidation Project

Industry: Higher Education

Problem​

  • A higher education university shared data and applications with numerous external entities. These services, hosted on on-premise solutions, relied on different identity structures, leading users to manage between 1 to 8 logins for various applications. This fragmented system not only hampered user experience but also heightened security risks for the university.

Solution

  • Spyglass suggested consolidating applications into a unified directory for external identities and using Cross Tenant Access for administrative accounts. They centralized application platforms in a managed cloud tenant, enabling robust authentication across segmented environments. Permissions were managed via security groups and access packages, with customized per-app MFA configurations for user logins.

Benefits

  • The unified environment streamlines management by eliminating guest accounts, enhancing authentication, and saving on licensing costs for users accessing multiple application instances with a single license. It also enables swift deployment of additional applications, fostering expanded growth within the environment.

Microsoft 365 Migrations

Industry: Software

Problem​

  • The client sought to transition from various third-party tools to M365, aiming to streamline their data operations and cut costs. However, due to the volume and complexity of their data, they required assistance with the migration process.

Solution

  • Spyglass facilitated the client's migration from Slack to Teams, crafting automation and bots mirroring the Slack experience. Additionally, we migrated Google Workplace to M365 E5, transitioning Gdrive personal and team drives to OneDrive and SharePoint respectively, while moving Gsite Classic and Modern sites to SharePoint. We also handled the migration of complex Google Forms to Microsoft Forms and intricate Google Sheets to Excel.

Azure Data Platform for Financial Data

Industry: Manufacturing

Problem​

  • The client utilized Hyperion Financial System (HFM) for financial reporting via a standalone, on-prem SQL*Server setup. Additionally, they've developed a substantial analytics environment, RDP (client Data Platform), using Azure Synapse and PowerBI, housing dimensional models.
  • The task at hand involved integrating these disparate sources to provide a comprehensive view, merging financial data from HFM with other organizational data like sales and manufacturing within RDP.

Solution

  • Spyglass MTG devised a plan to directly retrieve data from the HFM database, extracting Fact and Dimensional entities. This data was then processed by Azure Synapse and transferred to the Azure staging, followed by the creation of data pipelines to integrate it into the RDP environment.
  • Additionally, Spyglass MTG crafted PowerBI views and reports for global client consumption.

Benefits

  • By consolidating corporate data within an Azure Synapse Data Platform, global users gain the ability to explore data in novel ways, uncovering insights previously inaccessible through PowerBI shared models. This centralized platform also enables the creation of advanced, innovative reports tailored for worldwide users.

Microsoft Power BI Adoption

Industry: Higher Education

Problem​

  • The university's Alumni Affairs sought to transition from Tableau to Power BI, realizing the need for assistance after initial independent attempts. Recognizing the imminent shift to Power BI across departments, the IT department aimed for comprehensive understanding and governance of the new platform to facilitate this transition and future adoptions.

Solution

  • Alumni Affairs and the IT Department collaborated with Spyglass to devise a proposal meeting both their requirements. Spyglass proposed a Power BI Platform Foundation engagement, employing Alumni Affairs' use case as the pilot for the project's implementation. 

Benefits

  • The Alumni Affairs report development team gained insights into the platform's capabilities, envisioning its potential to enhance their delivery of valuable information to the university's Alumni. Simultaneously, the IT department established the platform and governance, ensuring a more meaningful, managed, and efficient rollout of this new service across other university departments.

IoMT on Azure with Synapse Streaming Analytics

Industry: Medical Device 

Problem​

  • Our client embarked on a modernization strategy of enabling medical devices with Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) technology to improve patient care through real-time data-driven analytics.
  • The company has multiple devices in their portfolio and envisioned them as a suite of intelligent, connected, and real-time data-driven diagnostic IoMT solutions. 

Solution

  • Spyglass and the client envisioned Synapse Spark as the core analytical engine for IoMT devices. Together we worked to implement an end-to-end IoMT solution leveraging Azure IoT Hub, MedTech Services for EMR FHIR integration, and Azure Synapse for streaming analytics. The foundation of which is the blueprint architecture for the future state of the client's devices.

  • The client's Proof of Concept demonstrated real-time IoMT feasibility, enabling rapid device scans, Azure processing in under 10 seconds, and swift data transmission, setting the blueprint for future Azure-based device integration and enhancing patient care through instant interactions during visits.

Power Platform with Power Pages and Power BI

Industry: Clinical Research

Problem​

  • The Monthly Project Operating Review (MPOR) provides project teams with a framework and database that help them promote project success. This process originated as an Excel application that was then migrated to an Oracle application. 
  • The client needed to move off Excel to facilitate the incorporation of embedded Clinical Trial Operations Reporting (CTOR) reports as well as to update and add functionality. Spyglass MTG also delivered the CTOR solution.

Solution

  • The new target platform for MPOR is a Power Pages web site that will leverage the out of the box Power BI report embedding capabilities of Power Pages and provide a basis for enhanced functionality. The engagement encompassed Requirements/Story Validation, Technical Design, Setup of Dev/Staging and Production, Development, Release Pipelines, QA Support and Production Support.

Benefits

  • By integrating PowerBI and Power Pages, our client was able to offer their users individual access to project data and reports via a portal web site built on the power platform.

Predictive Analytics for Claims

Industry: Insurance

Problem​

  • The client needed to make enhancements to their Claims Predictive Analytics environment. Claims had been building analytics in Azure for a couple of years and had grown to the point of needing a more mature Azure analytics landing zone.
  • The client supports several business line deployments including Claims and wanted to leverage the work and experience Spyglass provided from a previous project to move Claims Analytics into a more secure and capable Azure analytics landing zone.

Solution

  • The continued target platform for Claims Analytics is Azure SQL Server, Synapse and Databricks. The engagement encompassed an iterative approach around laying the foundation, targeted re-designs, architecture assessments and strategic re-designs.

Benefits

  • Our engagement achieved substantial cost savings by reducing Azure spend through cost management pipelines, expediting new data source development, automating analytical model refresh, and consolidating pipelines from hundreds to tens. The client experienced improved administration, simplified complexity within Data Factory, App Services, and Azure ML, establishing a self-sustaining business development cycle adhering to best practices.

Identity and Apps Cloud Migration

Industry: Higher Education

Problem​

  • The customer had several apps that were in on-premises environments, with multiple identity sources for each app. They were looking to develop a strategy and design for application identities for meeting existing and future needs within its application portfolio for its own customers that also offered additional security options.

Solution

  • Spyglass worked with the client to implement a new Entra ID (Formerly Azure AD) tenant which allowed for easier migration of the on-premises apps to Dynamics 365 Online. Cross Tenant Access (CTA) was also configured so that specified users within the customer's internal environment could leverage their own internal accounts and security mechanisms.

Cloud Security Assessment

Industry: Financial Services

Problem​

  • This client had just begun their journey to the cloud in a more ad hoc business unit driven manner. Their deployment configuration was being managed in a non standardized fashion, leaving their environment vulnerable.

Solution

  • Spyglass performed a current state evaluation with our security and governance assessment approach for their existing Azure implementation.
  • Leveraging our own custom built tool based on Microsoft’s Zero Trust Approach, the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), and NIST, Spyglass presented a Power BI visual scorecard including prioritized remediation steps and activities.

  • The client was able to better secure their cloud environment by evaluating high and critically identified assessment items and architecting and implementing solution based, ‘security approved,’ Azure Blueprints for Business analytics, Security Workflows and IT Central, alongside of Azure fundamental education and a cloud governance road map.

Risk Analytics

Industry: Higher Education

Problem​

  • This client had a very large security monitoring topology utilizing various platforms (Sentinel, InsightVM, ProofPoint, Defender, etc.) and could not see a bigger picture of security events and their interdependencies in a single, unified environment. This hampered their ability to react to various cyberthreats and attacks in a timely and consistent manner. 

Solution

  • Spyglass worked with the client to consistently source all of this security data into a centralized analytics data model that houses Assets, Alerts, Campaign, User, and other metrics which they slice and leverage to make better decisions in their security framework. 
  • The solution was built as a Synapse Data Lakehouse which allowed us to scale with the 5+ terabytes of security data per day in a highly efficient and less expensive approach. 

Benefits

  • The client can now see and correlate large amounts of data derived from multiple disparate security systems in order to identify security patterns that were previously unattainable.

Global Business Reporting

Problem​

  • This medical device firm wanted to provide a holistic business review for all global business units (GBU’s) in the organization.
  • The challenge was that each business unit had a different analytical perspective with no cohesiveness across global business units.

Solution

  • Spyglass architected Azure based data solution sourcing data from several different systems with private connectivity to ERP, MDM and Definitive Healthcare data sets across all global business units and companies.
  • The result was an enterprise reporting model that provided business metrics for Rental, Service, Sales, Accounts Receivables based on Industry standards for all GBU’s with a consistent customer definitions, product hierarchies and naming conventions.

  • Business users now have a consistent, timely and cross GBU view of Sales, Rental and Service metrics to help make better informed decisions about their business and provide insight to their customers.

  • As an Online University, they had a lot of information already collected, but they were looking for ways to better understand and analyze that information.

Solution

  • Spyglass built a reporting solution with Azure and Power BI that combined their own data with data from Nexus LMS, their learning system of choice that presented clear and actionable reports.

  • The client had gone through a series of Merger & Acquisitions over the years, which resulted in disparate systems and no single collaboration platform to operate their business.
  • Our client needed to move to one platform for all existing companies as well as for all future acquisitions to promote seamless global communication.

Solution

  • First, Spyglass performed a tenant-to-tenant migration to merge all companies onto a single tenant.
  • Next Spyglass provided a cohesive plan, architecture, and execution for a global Teams deployment to help the smaller companies merge onto one collaboration platform.

  • The client was in the early stages of a cloud adoption when they brought us in for assistance.

Solution

  • Spyglass assisted in creating their Microsoft tenant. We configured their hybrid AD and O365 email, maintained their Azure tenant, and helped them to implement Teams with Phone System licensing.
  • Spyglass also converted their Office 365 and Azure subscriptions to our CSP program to provide more direct management and support.
